Licensed to practice medicine in Texas per 22 TAC Ch. 163, with a minimum of 2 years' experience in the field of addiction medicine (a facility that cannot secure this may seek a State Methadone Authority variance with a qualified medical consultant and training plan).
Duties the rule assigns
- prescribe narcotic drugs per federal standards
- evaluate patients and determine appropriate treatment modalities
- review treatment plans annually
- review and countersign treatment plans prepared by counselor interns
- decide take-home medication privileges
- conduct a face-to-face meeting with each patient no later than one week after admission
